Here is a list of resources for military members should they need emergency assistance: www.military.com Sailors and Marines can turn to the Navy Marine Corps Relief Society. nmcrs.org Soldiers can get help through the Army Emergency Relief program. www.aerhq.org Airman can reach out to the Air Force Aid Society www.afas.org Coast Guardsman can find help through Coast Guard Mutual Assistance. www.cgmahq.org What to do in case of a Government Shutdown/No Military Pay: 1. Talk to your creditors: CALL your credit card companies, cable/cell/insurance/services providers, your bank(s), etc. and explain the shutdown. 2. Contact your command, if no agreement can be made with creditors,. They are briefing commanders in every command on how to advise military. 3. Know your resources and your options: There are several organizations, groups, etc., that are prepared to help military in emergency situations (ie Navy-Marine Corps relief, food storage centers, etc.) 4. ASK for help. Don't let pride get in the way. If you NEED help, ask for it. It's why it is there. 5. We military folks are a family, whether you like your neighbors or not. Pull together. Ask your military neighbors if they are ok, if they need anything. Use a barter system if you feel more comfortable. Swap babysitting, yard work, etc., for goods (diapers, food, etc.)
