Buy/Protect/Sell: Investing in Maine Farms
Program-related investments (PRIs) are a tool for community foundations to increase their impact in areas beyond grantmaking. Typically, PRIs come in the form of low-interest loans. MaineCF made a low-interest loan of $1 million to the Maine Farmland Trust for its Buy/Protect/Sell program. In this video, Maine Farmland Trust CEO John Piotti describes how the PRI works and how it has helped the trust purchase 3000 acres of vulnerable farmland in the past two years.
