State Legislative Dems Left at Altar
The four Republican New York state senators who voted for same-sex marriage last June are reaping a windfall from gay, liberal, and some conservative donors who support marriage equality, but virtually none of that money is flowing to the Democrats who provided the overwhelming majority of the votes for the bill — including those who, like the GOP supporters, switched their votes to yes or who ...

I-580 Gunman Byron Williams allegedly wanted a Revolution
Convicted felon Byron Williams loaded up his mother's Toyota Tundra with guns, strapped on his body armor and headed to San Francisco late Saturday night with one thing in mind: to kill workers at the American Civil Liberties Union and an environmental foundation, prosecutors say. Williams, an anti-government zealot on parole for bank robbery, had hoped to "start a revolution" with the bloodshed at the ACLU and the Tides Foundation in San Francisco, authorities said. But before he made it to the city, Williams was stopped at early Sunday by California Highway Patrol officers for speeding and driving erratically on westbound Interstate 580 west of Grand Avenue in Oakland. Police say he then initiated a chaotic, 12-minute gunbattle with officers, firing a 9mm handgun, a .308-caliber rifle and a shotgun. He reloaded his weapons when he ran out of ammunition and stopped only after officers shot him in areas of his body not covered by his bullet-resistant vest, authorities said. On Tuesday, Williams, 45, of Groveland (Tuolumne County) appeared in an Oakland courtroom on charges that he tried to murder four CHP officers. Authorities described him as a heavily armed man determined not to return to prison. Bullets from the suspect's rifle could penetrate ballistic body armor and vehicles, police said. 'Start a revolution' After he was wounded and taken to Highland Hospital in Oakland, Williams told investigators "his intention was to start a revolution by traveling to San ...

YouTube Cares About DMCA Abuse and/or Fair Use?
Full 1 hour video of the July 10 VidCon panel is at www.youtube.com When I attended a panel discussion on "Policy, Copyright, and Fair Use" at VidCon in Los Angeles on July 10, 2010, I was able to raise both the issue of false DMCA filing and the issue of greater human supervision over YouTube's Content ID copyright matching software with the two YouTube representatives on the panel, Victoria Grand and Glenn Brown, but I didn't always like the answers I got, as I explain in this video. In addition to the clips I use from my own recording of the VidCon panel, I also use 3 images in this video. One image I used comes from my own YouTube video player page from my video titled "YouTube Copyright and Fair Use Questions for VidCon on July 10" at www.youtube.com The image I used of the logos of various internet freedom advocacy organizations like the American Civil Liberties Union of Northern California and the Electronic Frontier Foundation comes from the document titled "Fair Use Principles for User Generated Video Content" at www.aclunc.org And, the final image I used comes from the Department of Justice's cybercrime reporting page at www.justice.gov
