Trees Atlanta is a non-profit citizens' group dedicated to protecting and improving our urban environment by planting and conserving trees. We also educate the public about the value of trees. We are involved in tree issues in the entire metropolitan Atlanta area. Trees Atlanta was founded nineteen years ago by Central Atlanta Progress (the downtown business leaders association), the Atlanta Commissioner of Parks, and the Junior League to address downtown's lack of green space. Compared with other important cities like New York, Chicago, Paris and London, Atlanta's Central Business District was strangely lacking in street trees even though the metropolitan area is recognized by the Forest Service as "the most heavily forested urban area in the country".
