Houston Arbor Day is about re-planting 25,000 trees to replace what drought killed
It’s going to take years of effort, but hundreds of volunteers used Arbor Day Saturday to begin the process of putting back what Mother Nature took away by planting 25,000 trees in four Houston parks -- Memorial, Hermann, MacGregor and Mason.

Central Houston, Inc. 2011 Annual Meeting - October 14, 2011 Parks: Seeds of Community Growth This year's program discussed the transformative possibilities of parks and public spaces for communities. A panel was moderated by Dr. Larry R. Faulkner, President of the Houston Endowment Inc. The panel included Yvette Bowden, President and CEO of Piedmont Park Conservancy; Brady F. Carruth, President of The Wortham Foundation, Inc.; Fred Kent, Founder and President of Project for Public Spaces and Catherine Nagel, Executive Director of City Parks Alliance. Given the stunning impact of the drought and the focus of this event, Central Houston chose to forgo floral centerpieces and instead make a donation that will replace lost trees. Mayor Parker suggested donations be made to the City of Houston, Harris County, Houston Parks Board, Trees for Houston, Hermann Park Conservancy and Memorial Park Conservancy.
