Cody Laird Tribute Video
Each fall, the Georgia Conservancy celebrates the remarkable conservation achievement of a great Georgian at our annual gala, ecoBenefĂȘte. This year, on Nov. 4, the Georgia Conservancy honored E. Cody Laird, Jr., who has devoted a lifetime of energy and passion to land conservation across the state, from the mountains to the coast. Laird has also broadened his efforts in recent years to restore the dwindling longleaf pine-wiregrass ecosystem of southwest Georgia, which harbors many endangered and threatened species. (Read "Heart of Pine" a story about Cody's legacy from Georgia Conservancy's Fall 2010 Panorama) His innovative efforts to develop a cost-effective method of harvesting wiregrass seed have shown great promise to make possible the complete restoration of intact longleaf-wiregrass forest. Laird's ground-breaking restoration work at his Oakridge Farms and Lolly Creek can now be used as a template for other landowners to follow. The Georgia Conservancy is proud to present Laird with our 2010 Distinguished Conservationist Award at this year's ecoBenefĂȘte.
