New Orleans Schools Four Years after Katrina
Steve Suitts is Vice President of the Southern Education Foundation, the nations oldest education foundation which today advances creative solutions to assure fairness and excellence in education. Mr. Suitts past posts include executive director of the Atlanta-based Southern Regional Council and executive producer of Will the Circle Be Broken, a 13-hour radio series, which won a Peabody Award in 1998. He is the author of over 100 books, articles, and monograph, including Hugo Black of Alabama, for which he was named Georgia Author of the Year in biography in 2006, and several recent Southern Education Foundation publications.

Alabama High School Dropout Report
A clip of Lynn Huntley, SEF President, announcing the release of High School Dropouts:Alabama's Number One Education and Economic Problem. The report of the Southern Education Foundation (SEF) finds that Alabama now ranks 42nd in the nation in per capita income and almost two-thirds of the state's income gap with the nation is entirely due to the state's low levels of education primarily fueled by the state's high school dropout problems. SEF's report links the problems of high school dropouts directly to Alabama's lagging economy during the last three decades.

Scenes from a Quality Georgia Pre-K Class
This video shows Georgia Pre-K children enaged in a wide variety of learning activities. Using play and hands-on experiences, these children are growing in their understanding and abilities in the areas of math and language; critical thinking; social skills and cooperative play; as well as find and large motor skills. The Southern Education Foundation's recent report on Georgia Pre-K discusses the importance of expanding these voluntary programs to serve all 4-year-olds in Georgia.

Zell Miller Speech about GA Pre-K in 1998
This video shows former Georgia Governor Zell Miller in his last "State of the State" address to the Georgia General Assembly in 1998 when he reviews the establishment of Georgia Pre-K class of four-year-olds who sing "Give me, Give me Ice Cream" to the legislators. The Southern Education Foundation (SEF) has recently published a report showing that Georgia has the need and means to make Georgia Pre-K a truly universal high-quality pre-kindergarten program.
