Scholarships are awarded to low-income families for up to $3,950 (per child, per year for tuition and books) that are honored at more than 900 private schools throughout Florida. The scholarships can be used at private schools or out-of-district public schools (for public transportation up to $500 per year). Education Week just released its 2012 Quality Counts rankings. Florida earned a C , dropping the state from 5 down to 11 overall — the biggest drop of any state. Last year Florida politicians gushed over Florida’s rank of fifth in the nation, forgetting to mention that it was only for data collection, not achievement.
